Are there college scholarships for Girl Scouts?

Sweet Briar College provides scholarships to young women who have completed the Gold Award program. Girl Scouts accepted at Sweet Briar from anywhere in the United States can qualify for one of five $2,500 scholarships thanks to generous contributions. Each grant is for the first year of study alone.

College scholarships may be available for those who work with their hands as well as their brains. The best place to look for information on these types of awards is the school or career counselor's office. They will be able to guide you to organizations that provide these kinds of awards and also let you know about other opportunities such as federal grants that may not require any application process at all.

The best way to get a college scholarship is by being a member of a competitive group. This means finding out about awards that are given out annually and making sure you participate in all the activities required for acceptance. For example, if an essay question is required of previous award winners, make sure to submit an entry even if you did not win last year. This shows that you are willing to go above and beyond what's expected of you and that's what they look for when reviewing applications.

There are many ways to get a college scholarship.

How many years do scholarships cover?

Full-tuition scholarships are the holy grail of college scholarships, covering the bulk of your tuition for four years. Depending on the criteria set by the sponsor, these scholarship grants can cover both tuition and living expenses. Some examples of full-tuition scholarships include the Arthur J. Schmitt Scholarship, the Donald W. Reynolds Award and the William G. Mifflin Memorial Scholarship.

The majority of college scholarships pay only part of your tuition or living costs. Usually, you will have to pay some amount of money up front or over time. These scholarships may be applied toward tuition, room and board, supplies, activities, transportation, childcare, and other expenses that are not covered by other sources of funding.

Some students are able to obtain free tuition at their school by participating in campus organizations or through other means.

The amount of a given scholarship may vary depending on how much assistance you receive from other sources, such as federal financial aid or private donations. For example, if you receive a federal grant for half of your tuition costs, then the remaining half must be paid out of pocket. There is no guarantee that receiving other forms of aid will prevent you from having to provide documentation of need.

Many colleges require you to document your need based on income, family size, location, etc.

Do Girl Scouts look good on college applications?

Given that just a tiny number of Girl Scouts complete the Gold Award and that only a small percentage of college candidates are Girl Scouts, I believe it will pique some curiosity. It would be comparable to any large-scale community service project, in my opinion.
