Does Aviv give you a scholarship?

The AVID Senior Standout Scholarship Awards range in value from $250 to $35,000. Over 60 outstanding AVID seniors who have completed at least four years in the AVID program at the end of their senior year receive SDCOE honors. These students represent the best and brightest talent in our community and are invited to apply for up to three scholarships. The number of awards is limited so be sure to submit your application by December 4, 2011.

Scholarship money is used for college expenses including tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies, and transportation. Applicants should provide proof of enrollment (or plan to enroll) in a degree-granting institution within six months of the date of award.

Students must be U.S. citizens to be eligible for these awards. Proof of citizenship is required at the time of application. No applications will be accepted after 5:00 p.m. on the due date.

These prizes are not loans from the government; they are gifts made possible by private donors who believe that giving back to their community is important.

The 2011 recipients were announced at a banquet held on May 4, 2011.

How much is the Goodrich Scholarship?

Scholarship for Isaacson Incentive Each scholarship is worth $1,000. Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA in high school, UNO, or the institution from which they are transferring to be considered. Also, students must submit a 750-word essay on an issue related to the history of science.

The award is given out by the Board of Trustees. Applications are accepted year round but not more than once per year. The deadline for application submission is March 1st.

This scholarship is open to students who are citizens of the United States and who intend to attend any degree program at the University of Nevada, Reno.

In addition to tuition fees, the Isaacson Scholarship covers room and board costs. It does not cover books or other educational expenses.

Students who meet the requirements but lack the required score can take the exam again in one year from now. However, if they do not meet the requirements before then, they will need to look for another way to pay for college.

There is no cost to apply for this scholarship.

It is recommended that applicants research other scholarships that may be available to them.

What is the courage to grow a scholarship?

The "Courage to Grow Scholarship" was established to assist students in achieving their educational goals. Scholarship awardees will be chosen one week after the deadline. Amount of the award: $500 per month, non-renewable. This scholarship will be worth a total of $6,000.

How does one develop this kind of courage? By recognizing that we all have fears which get in our way when we want to do something new or different. Facing our fears can be difficult because they usually come with feelings of anxiety and panic. However, once we face them, we can take measures to deal with them or work through them by taking small steps toward our goal.

This type of courage is needed in order to grow academically and personally. Without it, we would never attempt anything new. This world would be a very boring place if we all did what we've always done - nothing new under the sun!

So, how does one develop this kind of courage? By recognizing our fears and working through them one at a time. The more we do it, the easier it becomes!
